Dick Ring Bio

Dick was a multi-sport athlete in the 1950’s; gathering honors in speed skating as well as cycling. He raced with a young rising star called Arthur Longsjo in the late 50’s. But as Dick’s racing career wound down, he gave back to the sport he loved in becoming Co-Director of the New England School of Bicycle Racing with William Farrell. But Dick’s most known presence in New England cycling was on the microphone. Dick had a natural talent for gab and keeping the spectators intrigued with all kinds of information on racers taking part in the event he was calling. Dick was the Voice of New England racing; there were very few events in the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s that didn’t benefit from Dick and his passion for the sport that came out in some of his race calls.

To recognize all of his contributions to bicycle racing in New England, Dick was inducted into the New England Bicycle Racing Hall of Fame in October of 2016.
