Butch Balzano Bio

A one time racer in the 70’s and 80’s, Butch got the idea of hosting a rolling service vehicle for bicycle races in 1980, and thus NRS & Events was born.  Butch started by using his own Caprice Classic station wagon working local New England events; and it turned into a national neutral support service with a fleet of Volvo station wagons with both full and part-time mechanics working races all over the country.  If you raced some of the best New England events out there, whether it was road, mountain, or cyclocross, more than likely you saw the red SRAM vehicles and knew that if you had a problem it would be fixed by the best of the best.  Butch helped New England become a beacon of road racing in the 90’s and 2000’s, servicing events from local criteriums to the top level events hosting national and international level competition.

In recognition of his efforts to help grow the sport of cycling in New England, Butch was inducted into the New England Bicycle Racing Association Hall of Fame in 2017.
