NEBRA Updates Upgrade Eligibility Criteria for Women

As part of our regular review of NEBRA policies and procedures, the Board of Directors and NEBRA’s Administrator have decided to revise the road racing category upgrade policies for women seeking advancement from Category 4 to 3 and Category 3 to 2. After reviewing the existing policy and the reality of upgrade point opportunities for these categories in New England we have decided to reduce the minimum point requirements to request a voluntary upgrade by 20%. Women in Category 4 may now request a voluntary upgrade to Category 3 with 16 points accumulated according to the points schedules in the USA Cycling rulebook. Women Category 3 may now request a voluntary upgrade to Category 2 with 24 points accumulated according to the points schedules in the USA Cycling rulebook. All points must be accumulated within the prior 36 months and field size and time/distance requirements still apply as normal.

NEBRA believes that this change more accurately reflects the reality of available upgrade points in New England and gives a more equitable route to upgrades for New England women. This change will be implemented with immediate effect in New England and we will also submit this as a recommended policy change for USA Cycling nationwide.
